Pitching Workout

Parents –It’s critical that you work with your boys during lay-offs from tournaments on their pitching….
Please follow the recommended work-out……
Please have the boys really focus on keeping the ball consistently around the knees of an average size hitter. As the season goes on and hitters see more pitching, the hitting will get better. It’s important that our catchers keep low targets and pitchers consistently keep the ball low.

1st: warmup throwing, and then pitch at the following distances:
(Mark off 54ft and 46ft for pitching practice in the yard)
25pitches total (every 3rd pitch being a change-up)
54ft - 5 pitches out of the Wind-up
54ft - 5 pitches out of the Stretch (checking runner at 2nd)
46ft - 5 pitches out of the Wind-up
46ft - 10 pitches out of the Stretch (5 checking runner at 1st and 5 checking runner at 3rd)
As far as “when”:
1. If your son pitched during a tournament and we have a tournament the very next weekend, do not pitch.
2. If your son pitched during a tournament and we do NOT have a tournament the very next weekend, pitch as follows 2x:
Friday following the tournament
Mon or Wed. prior to the next tournament
3. Your son did NOT pitch in the previous tournament.
Pitch at home on Mon or Wed., but add 10 (5pitches at 54ft and 5 at 46ft) pitches for a total of 35 pitches.
********Work on those picks too. 5 Picks of each type once a week**********
You can stay in the same spot, just tell your son to face a different direction to work on the intended base.
