Longhorns Announce 12U, 11U, and 10U Spring Stampede Tournaments

The Mizuno Longhorns have announced the dates of their Second Annual Spring Stampede Tournaments. The tournaments will be held over three weekends in April and May with the 10U tournament from April 29th through May 2nd, the 11U tournament will be held May 20th though May 23rd and the 12u tournament May 13th through May 16th. The tournaments will once again feature some of the top teams in the St. Louis area. For information on the tournament please contact:

10U Longhorns finish the season with 40 Wins!

The 10U Longhorns competed in 10 tournaments this year and played in the championship game in eight of them with five first place finishes, three second place finishes and a 40-13-1 record. The team worked hard this season and has earned a reputation for their competitiveness and good sportsmanship. Congrats to the 10U Longhorns for their successful season.

11U Missouri Longhorns take 3rd in AAYBA World Series

The 11U Missouri Longhorns ended their season strong, taking 3rd place in the AAYBA World Series Tournament held in Chesterfield, Missouri. 24 teams from Missouri, Texas, Illinois, Nebraska, Kansas, Arkansas and Oklahoma competed in this week-long tournament. The Longhorns played hard and kept their composure, beating tough competition to get in the Platinum (top-ranking) bracket. A loss in the final four cost them the championship game, but they came back fighting to beat the Arkansas Swing-Away Bears for a 3rd place finish. Way to go, boys!!!

2010 Mizuno Longhorns Tryouts

Thanks for your interest in the Missouri Longhorns. In 2010 we are extending our partnership with Team Mizuno Midwest. As a result, we are now the Mizuno Longhorns. The Try-out for our Spring 2010 11U and 12U Teams will be on Saturday, August the 8th. The try-out will begin at 9:00AM at our home field in Josephville, and will last approximately two to three hours. If you are unable to make the larger try-out please let us know as soon as possible in advance for an individual work-out.

2010 Plans and Goals for try-out:
The intent of the try-out is to give each player the chance to display his running, throwing, fielding and hitting abilities.
Our goal is to set the 2010 Team Roster soon after the 8/8 tryout. We would like to get this done by 8/9.
There will be one team at the 12U age group coached by Cory Tasche.
There will be two teams at the 11U age group.
The 11U Longhorns(Black) will be coached by Russell Jenkins and the 11U Longhorns(Orange) will be coached by Brian Cissell. The Black Team will play at the AAA/Major Level and will play a significant amount of the 2010 season at the 12U level. The Orange Team will play at the AAA Level for the 2010 season. Due to a significant interest in the area at the 11U age group, we believe that the timing is right to have two 11U teams in our program to ensure that players are getting the chance to develop their skills appropriately, as well as realize individual success at a competitive level.

Instructions for the try-out:
Dress – Baseballs pants, cleats, cap and cup
Please bring the following – Bat, Helmet, Catching gear(If trying-out as catcher),
Sign-in Starts at 8:30
Please RSVP at your earliest convenience on your intentions to attend.

10U Longhorns Win Gateway Midwest Regional Championship

June 28 - The 10U Longhorns captured their fourth 1st Place trophy when they won the Gateway Midwest Regional Tournament in O’Fallon, IL appearing in their seventh championship game this season. The Longhorns were 6-0 in the tournament displaying depth with their pitching. In the first round of bracket play they faced stiff competition from the Chesterfield Chargers winning 4-3. They continued on with big wins over the Diamond Devils and the Big Hitter Diamond Stars to bring home the Championship. Congrats 10U Longhorns!

9U Place 2nd in the Ozzie Smith CVVX Midwest Madness Tournament

The 9U Team took 2nd place in the Ozzie Smith CVVX Midwest Madness Tournament on May 17. After a storm-shortened game Friday evening that left the team a bit disappointed, they battled back on Saturday for a huge 18-3 win that earned them the chance to play in the championship game. The boys hung tough behind strong pitching and defense, and were only a hit or two away from blowing the game open. Our opponent stuck with their ace who somehow found the gas to keep going, and in the end the 8-6 score was indicative of a hard fought battle between two evenly matched teams. Congratulations to the boys on this important and exciting finish!

Longhorns Strike Again—-Super Series MO/IL Bi-State Champions!

6/1 - The 10U Longhorns strike again. In there fourth championship game appearance of the ’09 season, the Longhorns faced the relentless Chesterfield Chargers in what turned out to be the most exciting game of the season and the Longhorns 3rd title of the season. The Super Series MO/IL Bi-State Championship game started out as a typical 10U championship game with two strong teams and turned into an unprecedented fight to the end with neither team willing to give up. The first two innings were a defensive battle and with few base runners and a 0-0 score. In the top of the third, the Chargers came up with four runs. Not to be upstaged by the Chargers, the Longhorns came up with five runs of their own in the bottom of the third to take the lead 4-5. The Chargers scored two runs in the 5th inning to take the lead 6-5. The Longhorns were able to score one in the bottom of the 5th to tie up the game. The pressure was mounting going into the last inning with the score tied. The Longhorns had their ace closer Zack Thorp on the mound and were feeling pretty confident. Then with two outs in the top of the 6th inning, the Chargers come up with big hit that drove in two runs to take the lead 8-6. The Longhorns didn’t give up hope going into the bottom of the 6th. The first two batters were out on what were very close plays and the Longhorns were beginning to wonder if they would catch a break. The Chargers’ Pitcher was being very careful to keep the ball down in the strike and changing up speeds. With two outs, no men on base, and two strikes, Eric Tipton drives an off speed pitch to into the left-center gap for a stand-up double. The Longhorns’ spirit starts to rise. Jake Versemann takes a walk to keep the Longhorns’ hopes alive. Zack Thorp steps to the plate and drives a ball to the middle of the fence in right center for a standup double– two runs score to tie up the game!! A couple feet higher and it would have been a home run. The crowd is on their feet. The Chargers coaches are talking to their pitcher. So with the game tied, Thorp on second, Aireon Davis comes up to the plate and drives the ball into the left center gap and Thorp scores to win the game! And as Jack Buck would say, “Folks, that’s a WINNER!!!”

The 10U Team took 1st place in the Ozzie Smith CVVX Midwest Madness Tournament on May 17. Nine teams participated in the tournament and the Longhorns were seeded 1st after pool play. Their first bracket game was against the BH Diamond Stars which they won 3-0. It was a hard fought defensive game. In the championship game, the Longhorns faced the Chesterfield Chargers. The Chargers had some great pitching and had the Longhorns down 2-0. But in the fourth inning the Longhorn bats ignited. That along with some aggressive base running and the Longhorns came up with 8 runs. That was all they needed to take control of the game. They shutdown the Chargers and came up with an 8-2 victory to win 1st Place! Congrats to the 10U Longhorns for a game well played.

Over 250 people attended our 2nd annual Trivia Night held at the UAW Hall in Wentzville on February 27th. Thank you to all who supported the event - sponsors, parents, friends and families alike. A lot of hard work went into delivering another fun event that will help support our boys in the coming season.
