11U Black Close Out Their Season

The 11U Black Longhorns team played their last tournament of the year against 12U competition in 100 degree temps, BRUTAL! Despite the extreme temps the boys gave a fabulous effort to take second place in the tournament. The tournament started with pool play games against the Bombers Baseball and Assault Baseball teams which they were able to handle, giving up only 2 runs total in both games led by great pitching performances by Jake Versmann and Eric Tipton. Odd enough, they would play the same 2 teams in their bracket games, Bombers was the team to oppose in the semi-final game, again the Longhorns were able to take care of business beating the Bombers 7-0. In the final game of the year the Longhorns would oppose the Assault team again, however, this game the Assault would bring the big bats out. Regardless of who was on the mound for the Longhorns, the Assault team was hitting the ball and hitting it hard and their pitching would shut us down like nobody has done this year. If not for Blake Lodde’s 2 run homer in the bottom of the first the Longhorns would have tasted the agony they have embellished on other teams this year, the dreaded shutout. As a fan, it seems to hurt much worse when YOUR team is the one getting pounded then it does for other teams that have been handed the same fate at the hands of the Longhorns this year. I think it comes with the expectations of winning every time you step on the field, you almost cant believe it when you lose a game even though you know it is going to happen throughout the year. Fortunately for the Longhorns it didn’t happen very many times this year. They will close out their season with an impressive 51-10 overall record; the players, coaches, and parents should be very proud of this team, they have improved leaps and bounds from last year. So, in closing, I want to send out a big congratulations and thanks to all players and coaches for making this a very enjoyable spring/summer of baseball, I personally have enjoyed watching this team more than any professional team I’ve ever watched in my life. Until next year, well at least for a couple months, I will be going through baseball withdrawls with the rest of you parents and anticipating that first practice to get things going again for next year. So until then keep yourselves safe and healthy so we can meet again for another year of LONGHORN BASEBALL!!
